HOW TO CATCH BAR COD

LOCATIONS: Out wide from the coast starting in depths of 100m down to 300m look for small rises or changes in the bottom terrain on your sounder. A good quality sounder is your best friend finding these fantastic fish.

SIZE:Range from a 2kg to 20+kg.

AVAILABILITY: Mostly during the winter months or other times of the year when the current has slowed as much as possible or to nothing.

PEAK SEASON: Winter months.

TACKLE/RIGGING:Electric Reels, and jigging combos, deep drop rigs, heavy sinkers, 13/0 circle hooks, some attractants (glow beads, lumo tube or flashing lights).

BAITS/LURES:Jigs, live or dead squid, cut fish baits or live Yellowtail / Slimey Mackerel.

EATING QUALITY:Top of the range table fish which can be prepared in pretty much any way to be delicious.
